THE PUP WON NINE FIGHTS WITHOUT MAKING A TURN. HE DEFEATED GREGORY'S BRINDLE IN 2HR AND 47 MIN, THIS FIGHT TOOK PLACE ON NOVEMBER 24, 1890.
During his lifetime mr. Lightner had bred 2 strains; the early 20th century Lightner strain and the "later day Lightner" strain. Around 1900 mr. Lightner had created his early 20th century quality bloodline, based on different Irish and English Old Family lines. This early Lightner line, for a large part based on Colby dogs, produced a high number of top dogs that had a rednose. The 1930’s Old Family Red Nose (OFRN) line was based on these early 20th century Lightner dogs like Lightner’s Vick. Vick was, like most of Lightner's dogs, a brindle dog that was the great grandsire of Havey's Red Devil (sire of the famous Ferguson's Centipede). Most modern OFRN dogs have Lightner's Vick in their ped.
